Former Sri Lanka Army commander General Sarath Fonseka  found guilty of 'White Flag' statement today and sentenced to 3 years in Prison.

The Police have increased security with hundreds of armed police guarding the complex ahead of the delivery of the verdict and placed additional barricades around the court complex in Hulftsdorp, Colombo.

The key witness in the ‘white flag’ case, ‘The Sunday Leader’ editor Fredericka Jansz, has reportedly left the country with Lal Wikramathunga, the managing editor of  Sunday Leader.

එනම් මොවුන් මෙසේ පලා ගියේ තීන්දුවෙන් පසු ජනතාවගෙන් මොවුන්ට ඇති වියහැකි විරෝධයෙන් යම් කිසි හිරිහැරයක් මොවුනට විය හැකි යෙයි සිතන නිසාය. එයින් කියවනුයේ ෆොන්සේකා මහතාට අධිකරණයෙන් දඬුවම් නියම වෙනවා යන්නයි.

The Colombo Magistrate Court today ordered the Police to arrest Colombo District MP Duminda Silva in connection with the killing of former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and produce him before courts. 

The order was given by Prasanna Alwis(Colombo Additional Magistrate).

Monk Arrested with 3kg of Ganja | කංසා කිලෝ 3ක් සමග හිමිනමක් පොලීසියට කොටුවෙයි

Sri Lankan Police yesterday seized 3kg of marijuana (Ganja) being transported in a bus at Kobeigana, Kotawehera And a Buddhist monk has been arrested under suspicion in connection to the transporting of the illicit drugs(Ganja).

Preliminary investigations had revealed that the monk in question, of a temple in Panduwasnuwara, had been involved transporting marijuana on several previous occasions.

Sri Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (PBOA) decided to call off the private bus
strike that was to be launched at midnight today.

Chairman of the Association, Gemunu Wijeyratne noted that the decision to call off the strike was made
after the discussion held with the Minister of Public Transport.

PBOA Chairman said that the Ministry of Private Transport Services made a written promise to increase bus fares comparative to the increase in diesel prices. 

Meanwhile, the Minister of Private Transport Services, had stated at the discussions that a months’ time is needed to make a decision regarding amending the bus fares.

Chairman of the National Transport Commission Shashi Welgama said that the Bus Associations had agreed to this move.

එම එකඟතාවයේදී බස් ගාස්තු සංශෝදනය සඳහා මාසයක කාලයක් අවශ්‍ය බවට පෞද්ගලික ප්‍රවාහන සේවා අමාත්‍යවරයා ප්‍රකාශ කර ඇති අතර එම කොන්දේසියටද බස් සංගම් එකඟ වූ බව ජාතික ප්‍රවාහන කොමිෂන් සභාවේ සභාපති ශෂී වෙල්ගම පැවසීය.

Obama Seeks Support From China and Russia on Iran

Sri Lankans are dealing with the disappointment of losing the vote to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games, amid concerns it is a lost chance to develop sport in the island nation.

The southern city of Hambantota was defeated by Australia's Gold Coast in Friday's polling, with members of the Commonwealth Games Federation on Friday voting 43-27 in Australia's favor.

Australia has hosted the games four times previously while Sri Lanka was
bidding to host the games for the first time.

Sunil Gunawardena, a veteran athlete and coach, said hosting would have given Sri Lanka a chance to "turn a new leaf in the country's sports history."

Sugath Thilakaratne, an athlete who a bronze medal in 1998 games, agreed it is a lost chance to boost Sri Lankan sports.

EU concerned over website blocking by Sri Lanka | චී! චී! ලැජ්ජයි ලැජ්ජයි.. - යුරෝපා සංගමය

The European Union has expressed concern over Sri Lanka's move to block certain anti-government websites, days after the US demanded that Colombo respect freedom of expression.

"The EU considers that freedom of press forms is an integral part of any democratic system. The EU therefore believes that the media should be allowed to operate independently," an official statement by EU heads of diplomatic missions here, said.

The Sri Lankan ministry of media had on Saturday ordered news websites publishing reports about Sri Lanka to obtain accreditation from the information department.

Over the last two days several websites have been blocked including Lankawaynews.com, which is said to be Opposition UNP''s official website.

The Ministry of Mass Media and Information had said it was "receiving many complaints from various individuals who have been subjected to defamation and character assassination by certain reports published in several websites".

The President, ministers, and senior public officials have come under attacks and deliberate character assassination campaigns in such reports, it added.

Sri Lanka has already blocked anti-government websites .

The US embassy had this week said that freedom of expression, including unfettered access to Internet news websites, was a basic right which must be respected by Sri Lankan authorities. (PTI)

Describing India's concerns on safety of its fishermen as having fallen on 'deaf ears' of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa on Monday asked the Centre to take a "strong stand" against Sri lanka and "convey its serious apprehension through tough words and action".

In a letter to Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, she said the attacks should be viewed as a national issue and not as an isolated problem of Tamil Nadu. "I request you to kindly take a strong stand against the government of Sri Lanka with regard to such attacks on our fishermen and convey your serious apprehension through tough words and action"

Jayalalithaa said there had been over 22 incidents of attacks of Tamil Nadu fishermen by Lankan authorities since May this year and six major ones during the past one month.

Sri Lanka urges news websites to register with the Media Ministry | ශ්‍රීලංකාව පිළිබඳ ප්‍රවෘත්ති සපයන සියළුම වෙබ් අඩවි ජනමාධ්‍ය හා ප්‍රවෘත්ති අමාත්‍යංශයේ ලියාපදිංචි විය යුතුයි.

Ministry of Mass Media and Information, the government information department ordered to all websites that publish news on Sri Lanka or its people, from the country or elsewhere to register with the Media Ministry.

ශ්‍රීලංකාව පිළිබඳව හෝ ශ්‍රීලංකා ජනතාව පිළිබඳ ප්‍රවෘත්ති සපයන සියළුම වෙබ් අඩවි කඩිනමින් ජනමාධ්‍ය හා ප්‍රවෘත්ති අමාත්‍යංශයේ ලියාපදිංචි විය යුතු බවට රජය නිවේද්නයක් නිකුත් කරමින් කියා සිටියි.

එසේ නොකරන වෙබ් අඩවි ශ්‍රීලංකාව තුල වාරණය කිරීමටත් කටයුතු යොදා ඇති බව පවසයි.
