Describing India's concerns on safety of its fishermen as having fallen on 'deaf ears' of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa on Monday asked the Centre to take a "strong stand" against Sri lanka and "convey its serious apprehension through tough words and action".
In a letter to Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, she said the attacks should be viewed as a national issue and not as an isolated problem of Tamil Nadu. "I request you to kindly take a strong stand against the government of Sri Lanka with regard to such attacks on our fishermen and convey your serious apprehension through tough words and action"
Jayalalithaa said there had been over 22 incidents of attacks of Tamil Nadu fishermen by Lankan authorities since May this year and six major ones during the past one month.

තමිල්නාඩු ධීවරයින්ට එරෙහිව ශ්රී ලංකාවෙන් විවිධ බාධා එල්ල වන බව එම ලිපියේ සඳහන් කර ඇති අතර ඉන්දීය ධීවරයින්ට ශ්රී ලංකාවේ ආරක්ෂක අංශ මගින් සිදුවන අකටයුතුකම්වලට එරෙහිව දැඩි පියවර ගත යුතු බව ඇය සඳහන් කර ඇත.මෙය හුදෙක් තමිල්නාඩුවේ ප්රශ්නයක් පමණක් නොව සමස්ත ඉන්දියාවටම බලපාන කරුණක් බවට සැලකිය යුතු යැයි ඇය සිය ලිපිය මගින් ප්රකාශ කර තිබේ.මෙම වසරේ මැයි මාසයේ සිට මේ දක්වා තමිල්නාඩු ධීවරයින්ට එරෙහිව ශ්රී ලංකාව විසින් සිදුකළ අකටයුතුකම්වලට අදාළ සිදුවීම් 22 ක් වාර්තා වන බව තමිල්නාඩු මහ ඇමතිනිය ප්රකාශ කර ඇත.
